Keyboardy or Gboard?

Google's Gboard is an excellent general keyboard that supports hundreds of languages, with glide typing, voice input and translation. Keyboardy is narrower and deeper: two languages only, but built for Arabic first, and it suggests short videos, stickers and GIFs that match what you are writing as you write it. If you type in many languages or rely on swiping and dictation, pick Gboard; if your conversations are in Arabic and you like replying with clips, Keyboardy is built for that.

When to pick Keyboardy

  • Your conversations are mostly in Arabic, and you want a keyboard built for Arabic rather than one that added it.
  • You like replying with a short clip or a sticker instead of words, and want it to appear above the keys as you type, without searching.
  • You search in Arabic and want the same result whether or not you type the hamza.
  • You are on iPhone and want a keyboard that is still being developed and updated.
  • You want to know exactly what is sent from what you type: Keyboardy publishes it, with the numbers, on its security and passwords page.

When to pick Gboard

  • You type in more than two languages, or in a language other than Arabic and English.
  • You rely on glide typing or voice dictation.
  • You want translation and Google search inside the keyboard.
  • You want a clipboard for what you copy today, not in an upcoming update.
  • You need a keyboard you can install today; Keyboardy is not in the stores yet.

Can I use both?

Yes. You can enable more than one keyboard on the same device and switch between them with the globe key: use Gboard when you want to swipe or dictate, and switch to Keyboardy when you want to reply with a clip or a sticker.
