Keyboardy is a keyboard, which means it sees everything you type. So the most important points come first: we do not store what you type and passwords never reach us, but part of the text you are typing is sent to our server as a search query while the media row is showing. The details are below.
What we do not collect
We do not log keystrokes or store the text of your conversations, and there is no typing history on our servers. The keyboard reads the text near the cursor to suggest and correct words; that happens on your device, and the words it learns to improve suggestions stay on your device. Passwords never reach us: on iPhone the system does not let any third-party keyboard type into password fields, and on Android Keyboardy does not read or send anything from password, number, phone, email or web-address fields.
What is sent as a search query
The media row above the keys appears automatically when you are online, and while it is showing, the text you are typing is sent as a search query to find matching videos, stickers and GIFs. On iPhone that is the last three words before the cursor, letters only, never numbers or symbols, and nothing at all is sent unless you have turned on “Allow Full Access”. On Android it is up to the last 512 characters of the field you are typing in; if the text is shorter than three characters, none of it is sent. The request carries your account token so your favourites can be marked in the results, and our server works out your country from the connection to rank what is trending there. We do not keep search queries or record them against your account; if a request fails because of a server error, its details may be kept in the error logs we use to fix the fault. Hide the media row and nothing is sent.
Your account
You can use Keyboardy with a guest account created from a device identifier — no email, no phone number. We store that identifier and its token so we can restore your favourites and your subscription. If you set an app passcode, we store it hashed in a form that cannot be reversed, so we can neither see it nor recover it for you.
Usage and saved content
We count how often each video, sticker and GIF is sent, and in which country, so we can rank results by what is popular. Those counts belong to the content, not to a user. Your favourites and recently used items are stored against your account so they follow you across devices.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging token for your device so we can send them. You can withdraw permission in your device settings at any time.
Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions are handled by the App Store, Google Play or a payment provider. We receive the purchase confirmation and its token so we can activate your subscription. We never see or store your card details — those stay with the store or the payment provider.
Crashes and performance
We use crash reporting to find out when the app stops working. Crash reports contain technical information about the device, the OS version and where in the code the failure happened. They do not contain what you type.
Children
Keyboardy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it by writing to the address below. Deleting the app on its own stops any further data being sent.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date above, and announce it in the app if the change is material.
